Yamaha YZF-R125 Overview
Yamaha YZF-R125 has a sharp faired design inspired by its elder siblings. Starting from the front it has a stylish Twin-Led headlights setup that looks amazing. It gets a transparent visor to reduce those wind blasts. The tank design is sleek and gives the rider a nice grip. The tail section is compact and matches the overall design of the bike. Overall the design of the Yamaha R125 is pleasing and looks sporty.
Engine & Performance
Yamaha R125 is powered by a 124.7cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 4-stroke, 4-valves SOHC engine. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and comes with an assist & slipper clutch mechanism. Yamaha YZF-R125 produces 15 PS of maximum power at 9,000 RPM and 11.5 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 RPM. The VVA feature helps consistent power delivery across the rev band.
Frame & Suspension
It uses the tried and tested steel delta-box frame like its bigger sibling the Yamaha R25. The suspension duties on the Yamaha YZF-R125 are taken care of by a 41MM USD telescopic forks at the front end and a swingarm-linked mono-shock at the rear. The swingarm used is made up of aluminium, and the suspension setup provides good control in the corners as well as in normal riding conditions. The front wheel travel is 130 MM while the rear wheel travel is 114 MM.
Brakes & Wheels: The braking duties on the Yamaha YZF-R125 are taken care of by 292 mm fixed calliper hydraulic disc brakes at the front and a 220 mm floating callipers disc at the rear end. It comes with a dual-channel ABS as a standard option. The R125 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and tubeless tires.

Dimensions: The curb weight of the YZF-R125 is 142 KG, which is good for a faired bike. It has a fuel tank capacity of 11.5 litres and an oil tank capacity of 1.15 litres. The wheelbase of the Yamaha YZF-R125 is 1,355 MM and its seat height is 825 MM. It has a ground clearance of 155 MM and the overall length of the bike is 1,955 MM.
Lighting: Yamaha R125 uses twin-split all-LED headlights that offer bright illumination as well as look great. The taillamps are also an all-LED unit, while the turn-indicators are simple bulb type. It has a pass light switch, but it lacks the auto headlamps function.
Console: Yamaha YZF-R125 has a full-digital LCD instrument cluster. The LCD console shows a plethora of information and is easy to read. the console displays speed, tachometer, odometer, fuel level, engine temperature, gear position indicator, average fuel consumption, average speed, and a digital clock. It gets 2 buttons to toggle between the console features. It also has a gear shift light, ABS light, and service light.
Misc features: Some of the other convenience features include an engine kill switch and an electric starter. It has a good quality split step-up seat. The pillion seat is narrow and not that comfortable for long rides and daily use. The footpegs are made of high-quality aluminium.
Yamaha YZF-R125 Price in India and Launch Date
As of now, there are no launch plans for Yamaha YZF-R125 in India, because Yamaha already has the R15 V3 in the Indian market. For most of the Asian market, the R15 V3 is the smallest displacement R series bike from Yamaha. R15 V3 is already the best-selling bike of Yamaha in India, so there is little to no chance of Yamaha R125 launch in India.

Yamaha YZF-R125 competes with these motorcycles in the 125cc bikes in the supersport segment. Out of all these five bikes, only the KTM RC 125 is currently sold in India. All of these bikes have good-looking designs and similarly powerful engines. There is not much difference in terms of performance among them. RC 125 is sold at a premium price tag in India as there are currently no competitors in this 125cc supersport segment.
Verdict On Yamaha YZF-R125
Yamaha R125 has an evident R-series DNA right from start to end. It has a sleek front end with a sharp LED headlamps setup and a sporty tank layout that makes it stand out from the herd. It borrows its major design inspiration from its elder siblings the Yamaha R6 & R1. Yamaha YZF-R125 is surely one of the best-looking 125cc supersport bikes.
It has a fuel-injected & liquid-cooled engine. Now, R125 is an A1 license compliant bike so it can’t produce more than 15 PS of power. It achieves its peak power at 9,000 RPM which is relatively early compared to its competitors. However, It has the highest torque output amongst its competitors at 11.5 NM. The variable valve actuation makes sure that you don’t have to rev the life out of it, Ample amount of torque is available at low and mid-range. Yamaha claims the top speed of Yamaha YZF-R125 to be over 120 KMPH.
The R125 has solid built quality, that you can sense by just looking at it. The frame in the new version has been tweaked slightly. The suspensions work well for both track and road. The handling is nimble and it’s easy to flick around. The riding position is comfortable and it has a thick seat foam. Brakes on Yamaha YZF-R125 are good and work well for track and road. The ABS further increase confidence in case of a panic-braking situation.
Obviously, it’s not the cheapest in the segment but it has VVA, So that gives it an edge over the others in this 125cc supersport segment. With the high-quality paint schemes and sharp design, along with a reliable engine, Yamaha YZF-R125 is surely one of the best in this segment.
